Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue

Buff earthenware, the body thrown, tin-glazed and painted in blue. The bulbous bottle stands on a slightly spreading foot and has a short narrow neck with a projecting band at the top; the handle is missing except for short stumps. The front is decorated with a cartouche enclosing the arms of the Cooks' Company, flanked by seated monkeys holding vine stems. To the left and right divided by the cartouche is the name IOHN LEE and on the neck above, the date '1650'.
