Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue. Inscribed on a horizontal label, 'RICHARD: WRIGHT: &: ELIZABETH'

Buff earthenware, thrown, with applied handle, tin-glazed, and painted in blue. The cup has a bulbous body and stands on a foot, the loop handle is rounded on the exterior. Across the front there is a rectangular panel enclosing the inscription 'RICHARD : WRIGHT : & : ELIZABETH : 1650' . At either end there is a grotesque head with a protruding tongue at each end, and along the top and bottom a border of trefoil leaves or palmettes alternating with cone shapes formed by curved horizontal lines.
