Tin-glazed earthenware, decorated with bosses pushed up from inside, and inscribed in blue 'K.G/1651' below a crown. The underside of the cover is dated '1651'.
Buff earthenware with bosses pushed up from inside, tin-glazed, and painted in blue. Cylindrical with two loop handles and a sucking spout, the cover with a flange round the edge, two rows of bosses on the dome, and a depressed ball finial. Decorated on the side opposite to the spout witha crown, and below the initials and date 'K.G/1651' flanked by acanthus foliage with a grotesque mask below. The date is also inscribed on the underside of the cover.
History note: Said to have been made for Mr Keelynge Greenway and to have been sold by a descendant at whose sale it was bought by William Edkins; his sale, Sotheby's, 21 May 1891,Old English pottery and porcelain and other objects of art; bought by J.E. Hodgkin (d. 1912 ); Mr Wilfred Harding, London, from whom purchased in September 1913 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
