Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with the initials M/W E/1653

Buff earthenware tin-glazed greyish-white, and painted overglaze in blue, at a later date. Circular with deep curved sides and everted rim, standing on a low foot which is slightly concave underneath. Initialled and dated on one side 'M/W E/1653'

History note: From 'a small collection belonging to a lady in Essex whose father, it was believed, had been a clergyman in London' who had collected them there; offered by her for sale to Collins & Clarke, Cambridge from whom purchased in 1922 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
