Pottery: unidentified London pottery (Probably)
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue and labelled S.ACESTOVS.S.I. with below the initials and date '16 IG 69'
Buff earthenware, tin-glazed except for the inside of the foot, and painted in blue. The bulbous jar stands on a circular spreading foot and has a short neck with a slightly everted rim, an applied handle of D section with a small thumb rest on the top and a scroll at the lower end, and a short bulbous spout. On the front below the spout is the name of the contents 'S.ACETOSOS.S.I.' in a oblong cartouche with a strapwork edge, a fleur-de-lys at the bottom and rounded ends with a stylized plant outside them. Below are the initials and date 'I6 IG 69' enclosed by three swags.

The jar contained simple vinegar syrop. The initials are likely to be those of James Gower, Master of the Society of Apothecaries in 1690.
