Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with the name 'Hemet'
Buff earthenware, thrown, tin-glazed bluish-white, and painted in dull blue. Circular with bulbous sides contracting inwards towards the rim standing on a footring. The name 'Hemet' is painted on the outside
History note: A lady living in Essex, whose father was believed to be a London clergyman who collected it there; Collins and Clarke, Cambridge, who sold it with three other items on 6 September 1922 to Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge

Probably made in Lambeth. The name on the exterior is that of Peter Hemet who held the appointment of ‘Operator for the Teeth’ to George II until 1747 when he was succeeded by his son, also named Peter. His son Jacob took out a patent for ‘Essence of Pearl and Pearl Dentifrice’ in 1773.
