Fritware painted in black and blue under a clear glaze
Buff fritware, probably wheel thrown, painted in painted in black, blue and purple under a clear glaze.
Shape: deep hemispherical bowl with a plain rim and sitting on a low, wide foot ring.
Interior: the rim is painted blue. On the upper body a honey comb pattern is outlined in black with lozenges containing a group of blue dots, or a large purple dot which has run into the surrounding area. The roundel contains flowers and leaves outlined in black and highlighted with blue or turquoise. Three scar marks on the base indicate the use of a tripod stacking device in the kiln.
Exterior: decoration on the rim continues onto the exterior. A honey comb pattern identical to that on the interior covers the body. At the join between the lower body and foot ring a concentric band of purple is painted. Glaze, which is heavily pitted towards the base, runs unevenly over the foot ring; the underside of the foot ring is also unevenly covered with glaze.
