Description

Reddish-buff earthenware, press-moulded, the front tin-glazed dark blue and splashed with white tin-glaze, the back is coated with lead-glaze containing some streaks of tin-glaze.. Circular with a deep sloping rim, and curved well, standing on a footring.

Note

The shape of this dish is similar to the larger English delftware chargers, as is the technique of tin-glazing the front and lead-glazing the reverse.

Techniques used in production

Press-moulding : Pale reddish-buff earthenware, the front tin-glazed mid-blue and splashed with white tin-glaze, the reverse coated with lead-glaze with streaks, probably of tin-glaze. There is probably a thin coat of white slip under the glaze. Three stilt marks in centre of front.
