The Temptation
Pottery: Rotherhithe Pottery (Probably)
Tin-glazed earthenware painted blue, pale green, orange, and manganese-purple with Adam and Eve and the Tree of Knowledge
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, pale green, orange, and manganese-purple. Circular with curved sides and slightly everted rim, standing on a footring. Decorated in the middle with Adam and Eve standing on either side of the Tree of Knowledge entwined by a serpent and flanked by smaller stylized trees. The foreground has dark yellow paths and green grass. Round the edge are four concentric blue circles and blue dashes. The reverse has clear green-tinged pale brown lead-glaze.
History note: Not known, but probably acquired before 1900 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
