Description

Hard-paste porcelain temple vase. Thrown in two sections and luted, the tall neck applied with two lion's masks, painted underglaze in blue and round the rim in iron-brown. The sides are divided into horizontal zones by pairs of bands. The mouth is decorated with lotus scroll, the neck with cranes among clouds, and the lower part with a dragon chasing a 'pearl' among clouds. Near the base there is a scroll with a lotus below, inscribed:
"Temple of the Hundred Buddhas. Vase for the hall to ensure peace and happiness for the whole family. Faithful disciples from the Zhao family: Father Shideng, Mother Lady Fu, Son Yingchi, his wife Lady Lin and the newly born grandson Ziming. Kangxi ninth year of the Jimu (?) month on a clear auspicious day"
