Fritware, coated in an opaque cream glaze painted in blue, purple, black and red and with leaf gilding
Fritware, wheel thrown, coated with an opaque cream glaze, slightly crazed painted in the glaze in blue and purple and over the glaze in black and red and leaf gilding.
Shape: bi-conical bowl with plain rim and a wide, low foot ring.
Interior: rim is painted blue above a blue and red pseudo-calligraphic band. On the body a frieze of seated figures, in slightly different positions, alternately wear either blue robes with red shoes, or purple robes with blue shoes. Both sets of figures are outlined in black, with black hair and gold leaf arm bands. On the base, enclosed within a red concentric band outlined in black, a mounted horseman is depicted. The horse has a purple mottled coat, white face, blue hooves, a black tail and mane; while the black haired rider wears a blue jacket and brown boots. Both horse and rider are outlined in black with gold leaf embellishing the arm bands and bridle.
Exterior: the rim is painted in blue, while at a mid point on the body a band of calligraphy is faintly painted in black. The glaze runs to a mid point on the foot ring
