Pottery: Lambeth (Probably)
Buff earthenware, tin-glazed slightly greenish, and painted in blue, green, yellow and manganese-purple. Circular with a broad rim, sloping sides, and flat centre, recessed on the underside. Archer's shape M. The well is decorated with asymmetrically placed sprays of flowers and flying insects. The edge is encircled by a narrow border of Chinese style ju-i scrolls
History note: Said to have come from Icklingham, Suffolk; bought in Cambridge on 6 May 1895 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
