Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, pale green, yellow, and dark greyish-blue (perhaps manganese) with tulips and other flowers and foliage; border of blue and yellow circles and blue dashes

Dark buff earthenware, the front tin-glazed and painted in blue, pale green, yellow, and dark greyish-blue (perhaps manganese); the reverse, slip-coated and covered with uneven greenish lead-glaze. Circular with slightly everted rim, and deep curved sides, standing on a footring. The front is decorated with tulips, spiral buds and foliage springing from a small low mound. Round the edge there is a blue band flanked by wider yellow bands, and blue dashes.

History note: Unidentified vendor at a sale in Bedford where bought by Mr Roe, a Cambridge dealer, from whom purchased on 22 November, 1904 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
