Description

Fritware, carved under a clear glaze

Buff fritware, wheel thrown, with carved decoration under a clear glaze.
Shape: Conical bowl, finely potted, with plain rim and foot ring
Interior: Frieze of carved decoration on the upper body comprising bird-like animals surrounded by scrolling vegetation and delimited above and below by a pair of concentric lines. The freeze is pierced at irregular intervals to form open work design now obscured by glaze, possibly decayed.
Exterior: Piercing obscured by glaze resulting in lumpy appearance of upper body.
