Pottery: Lambeth High Street Pottery (Probably)
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with an inscription inside and Chinese landscape outside
Buff earthenware, thrown, tin-glazed bluish-white, and painted in blue. Circular wth deep curved sides, standing on a high footring. In the middle there is an inscription 'Success to/How' surrounded by two concentric circles. Below the rim there is a border of alternating panels of trellis and sgraffito decoration on a blue ground. The exterior is decorated with a Chinese style landscape with houses, rocks, trees, and fences.

The inscription refers to Richard Howe (1726-99), a famous naval commander who became First Lord of the Admiralty in 1783, and was created Earl Howe in 1788. He was particular popular after his relief of Gibraltar in 1782 and the defeat of a French fleet on 1st June 1794
