Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue
Buff earthenware, tin-glazed, and painted in blue. Cylindrical with a low skirt and very slightly recessed flat base, and an applied strap handle of oval section with a pinched terminal. The exterior is decorated on the front with a man giving a purse to a woman who holds out her apron to receive it. The figures are flanked by rococo style scrollwork with above, an oval medallion held up by putti, enclosing the name 'JANE/LANCHESTER', and below, a smaller oval medallion enclosing the date '1752'. On the left side there is a man carrying a basket in a landscape with a tree beside the handle, and on the right side, a woman carrying a basket in a landscape with a tree beside the handle. The back of the handle is decorated with strapwork.
