Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, dark green, yellow and red, and sponged in green, with Adam and Eve standing on either side of the Tree of Knowledge, surrounded by two blue bands and blue dash border

Buff earthenware, tin-glazed, painted and sponged in green, and painted in blue, yellow, and red. The reverse is slip-coated and tin-glazed. Circular with deep curved sides, standing on a footring. The front is decorated with Adam and Eve standing on either side of the Tree of Knowledge which has yellow fruits with red stripes and a yellow and red striped serpent twined in its branches.Adam and Eve hold large leaves. On the right and left there are three-tiered sponged trees. The rim encircled by two narrow blue bands and broad blue dashes.

Techniques used in production

Tin-glazing : Earthenware, tin-glazed white on the front and painted in blue, dark green, yellow, and red, and sponged in green; three stilt marks. The reverse is coated with a pale slip under tin-glaze, which has been wiped off the footring.
