Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, greenish-turquoise and yellow, and sponged in blue with a stag in a wood surrounded by a yellow band and blue dashes

Buff earthenware the front tin-glazed and painted in blue, greenish-turquoise and yellow, and sponged in blue; the reverse slip-coated and covered with greenish-blue tin-glaze. Circular with a wide sloping rim, and curved well, standing on a broad footring. Painted in the middle with a stag going towards the viewer's right in a wood with sponged trees and blue plants in the foreground. The edge is encircled by a blue band, a yellow band and blue dashes.

History note: Col. and Mrs. W.D. Dickson, Southill, Dean Park Road, Bournemouth who gave it as a Christmas present in 1921 to Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College Cambridge
