Pottery: Unidentified Liverpool pottery
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in green, yellow and red, outlined in manganese-purple, with a fantastic bird and tree in Chinese style on both pieces.
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in green, yellow and red, out-lined in manganese-purple. Circular cup with curved sides, standing on a high footring. Circular saucer with curved sides standing on a footring. The exterior of the cup and the interior of the saucer are each decorated in Chinese style with a fantastic bird perched on a tree growing beside a rock. The rim of both pieces is encircled by a red band.
History note: M. Midgely (nephew of the banker, Edmund B. Gibson of Saffron Walden); sold by him to Mr Hagger, Saffron Walden, from whom purchased for £1 on 6 June 1906 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
