Jugs decorated with frontal medallions enclosed by 'ladder' frames were common throughout central Italy during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, but the form of this on suggess that it probably came from Orvieto or a town in northern Lazio. Several jugs of similar type are in the Museo del Vino at Torgiano, and one decorated with a cock is in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Orvieto.
