Production: Wincanton Pottery
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in greyish-blue on the exterior with stylized plants in panels, and on the inside with three branches and the name and date 'Wincanton'1738'.
Buff earthenware with greyish tin-glaze, painted in blue. Circular with deep curved sides standing on a high footring. The inside is inscribed in the centre with the place name and date 'Wincanton/1738' within two narrow concentric circles. The sides are decorated with three sprays of flowers and there is a narrow band below the rim. The outside is decorated with two tiers of panels each containing a symmetrical stylized plant with a flower.
History note: H. Blake, a dealer in Wincanton; Major General AstleyTerry, London. Mr Miller, printer and antique dealer of Wincanton; sold through Miss James' antique shop in Lansdown Road, Bournemouth in 1921.
