Lantern. Hard-paste porcelain painted in iron-red, yellow, turquoise, aubergine, blue and two tones of green enamels with details in black with a continuous scene of a mandarin and attendants in a pavilion and balustraded garden.
Lantern. Hard-paste porcelain painted in a glossy enamel palette of iron-red, yellow, turquoise, aubergine, blue and two tones of green with details in black. The very thinly potted body of hollow ovoid form rests on a splayed foot and is surmounted by a flared neck, both encircled by pale green-ground floral scroll borders. The sides are decorated with a continuous scene of a courtier holding an ivory wand kneeling before a mandarin reading a scroll, and flanked by numerous attendants; all in an open pavilion within a balustraded garden with a maple tree and a banana palm growing behind a pierced rock. The shoulders and base are encircled by borders of prunus flowerheads and bamboo on stippled grounds and narrow bands of cash alternating with flowerheads in iron-red. The interior is entirely plain.
