Description

Fritware coated in a white slip painted in blue and black under a colourless glaze

Fritware, probably wheel thrown, coated in a white slip painted in blue with black outlines under a colourless glaze.
Shape: hemispherical bowl with tall cylindrical sides, terminating in a lightly bracketed rim, sits on a low foot ring.
Interior: on the lower body a frieze of bracketed arcades are filled with a flower and scrolling leaves. In the roundel a qilin stands on a hillock, reserved in blue on a background of lotus flowers and leaves. Glaze covers the surface unevenly on one section of the lower body.
Exterior: on the lower body a frieze with bracketed upper section contains storks amongst flowering lotus pants and cloud scrolls, all reserved in blue. Black concentric lines painted on the foot ring. Black seal mark painted in black on the underside of the foot ring. Glaze covers the surface, unevenly in places, except on the rim of the foot ring.
