Reddish-brown earthenware,the inside of the bowl and the top of the foot and stem coated in cream slip, and painted on the exterior in blue, green, yellow,dark brown and reddish-brown under lead-glaze. The bowl is in the shape of a depressed cone or artichoke with applied scales moulded in relief, and stands on a short stem rising from a wide circular foot with small relief sprays of leaves applied to its top. The circular cover is decorated with scales in yellow and blue. The knob is missing. The inside is painted in reddish-brown with the initials 'HV R' over the date '1764'. The underside of the lid is incised with the initials 'S R' and 'H x R' with the date '1764' between them
