Red earthenware decorated with applied volutes and hearts, and painted in white slip, and yellow under lead-glaze
Red earthenware, thrown, in two parts which form a globe shape when one on top of the other. The lower part has three applied volute feet and three applied heart outlines on the underside, and a slightly projecting rim with an internal ledge to take the cover. The cover is decorated on top with three applied volutes alternating with three applied hearts, and has a central three stage knob. The hearts on the lower part are outlined in white slip with a yellow spot above, and a yellow pendant motif inside at the top. The volute feet have white slip stripes and yellow outlines. Round the edge there is a yellow band with a row of yellow spots below it. The hearts on the cover are outlined in yellow with a white spot above and a white pendant motif inside at the top. The volutes are outlined in white slip and dotted with yellow, and the stages of the knob are alternately cream and yellow. Underneath, it has a yellow band round the edge.

This covered bowl is unique among Langnau container shapes. It is thought likely that it was made in the Herrmann family's workshop at Höhweweg 1 in Langnau.
