Description

Hard-paste porcelain cup and saucer painted in enamels and gold with borders of feathers, acanthus, paterae, husks, and swags.

Hard-paste porcelain, painted in pink, orange, purple, and black enamels, and gilded. The cylindrical cup as a loop handle with a spur on the inside. The circular saucer has sloping sides, and flat central area. The upper part of the cup is decorated with a border composed of feathers, acanthus, paterae, husks, and swags of trefoil leaves. Below, there are alternating gold sprigs and discs. There are gold bands round the rim and base, lines down the sides of the handle, and a spray of leaves down its back. The saucer is decorated en suite, with a patera in the centre, and has a gold band round the rim.
