Description

Greyish-buff stoneware, thrown, coated with a wash of iron-brown, and salt-glazed. The bottle has an elongated bulbous body, with a narrow neck with cordons round its top, and a small strap handle. The glaze and wash have dribbled down the lower part. The colouration is uneven, there being a wide band of pale brown on one side and darker more closely mottled brown on the other.

Probably from Frechen, but Rackham in 1935, wondered if it might be one of the stoneware jugs made in German style by John Dwight of Fulham in the late 17th century
