Description

Grey stoneware with relief decoration painted in cobalt-blue and salt-glazed

Grey stoneware, moulded, with incised and applied moulded relief decoration, partly painted in cobalt-blue, and salt-glazed. The flask or hand-warmer is in the shape of a book with a large circular aperture in the top close to the spine. Pseudo-clasps hold the back and front together over the fore-edge. The front and back are decorated with nine rectangular panels: four containing masks, four containing plant motifs, and the central panel, incised lattice pattern. The spine has three horizontal ridges beween which are two panels with incised scalloped boders and in the middle a motif resembling back to back Cs with upward and downward points between them
