Tin-glazed earthenware bowl painted in blue, yellow, and orange with a winged unicorn and a border of leaves
Earthenware tin-glazed on both sides and painted in blue, yellow and orange. Circular, with deep curved sides and a narrow sloping rim. The well is decorated with a fanciful winged unicorn galloping to the right over ground with small plants, enclosed by three narrow blue contric circles.. The rim has a repeating border pattern of two yellow leaves alternating with one blue, against a background of blue dots, with one blue line on the inner edge, and two lines round the outer edge.
History note: Riquelme et Fils, 5 Place de la Liberté, Biarritz from whom purchased on 7 January 1907 for 30 francs by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
