Description

Fritware painted in blue under a colourless glaze

Fritware, probably moulded, painted in blue under a colourless glaze
Shape: shallow carinated bowl with an everted rim, sits on a low foot ring
Interior: on the rim a frieze of diagonal lines. On the body asters radiate from a roundel containing a cross with trefoil at the centre and surrounded by scrolling vines.
Exterior: on the body a frieze of flower heads amongst scrolling stems and leaves. Concentric lines are painted on the foot ring; a potter’s mark is painted on the underside of the foot ring. Glaze covers the surface except for the rim of the foot ring.
