Description

Soft-paste porcelain double salt, with a bleu celeste ground, and on each side a reserve painted in enamels with two birds in a landscape, framed by gilding.

Soft-paste porcelain decorated externally with a turquoise (bleu celeste) ground, painting in pale blue, green, pale yellow, dark puce, purple, and brown enamels, and gilding. Approximately hour-glass shaped in plan with moulded sides and two quatrefoil depressions in the top for the salt. There are two holes for suspension inside the side wall. The ground is bleu celeste. On each side there is a long, rectilinear reserve, framed by gilded rocaille scrolls, flowers and mosaique patterns (trellis enclosing dots at one end, and groups of three dots at the other end of each reserve). Each reserve is painted in polychrome with two birds in a landscape.
