Description

Maiolica plate, painted in polychrome with, on the front, a pear and gourd surrounded by a stem with flowers.

Pale buff earthenware, tin-glazed greyish-blue overall. Painted in blue, green, yellow, orange, and white.
Shape 51. Circular with broad, sloping rim and small, very shallow well.
The front is decorated with a pear and a gourd, surrounded by a spiralling stem bearing three flowers, separated by braces of pears and foliage. Two narrow blue bands encircle the rim. On the back, interlacing petals outlined in blue radiate from the footring.

History note: Carrer (Cavivi?), Venice, from whom purchased in October 1903 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher (Typed Cat. 1888).
