Description

Maiolica bottle, painted in blue with an Oriental style design of rocks and foliage, with deer, birds and a rabbit.

Earthenware, tin-glazed overall except for edge of the base. Painted in blue. Square bottle with rounded shoulders and short cylindrical neck; very light for its size.
The four sides are decorated in Oriental style with rocks and foliage amongst which are respectively a deer and a flying parrot, a deer and two perched exotic birds, a deer and one perched exotic bird, and a rabbit and two perched exotic birds. The sides have double lines running along the lower edge, arched lines at the top, and a wide vertical line between two narrow lines on the corners. Each shoulder is decorated with a flower and sprays of leaves enclosed in a heart-shaped outline, and round the neck are paired leaves on a continuous stem between horizontal bands. The base is marked with a crown over a shield charged with a cross.
