Tin-glazed earthenware painted in polychrome with a basket of flowers and fruit in the centre, and an elaborate border of swags, scrolls, and trellis pattern on the sides
Pinkish-buff earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed, and painted in blue, pale green, yellow, and dull red. Circular with a sloping sides and a flat base; on the reverse there are three stilt marks. In the middle of the front is a basket containing stylized flowers and two pomegranates. The sides are decorated with a wide Baroque style border comprising swags of flowers and foliage, linked by scrolls to shaped panels of trellis pattern. On the reverse of the side there is an 'M' in blue.
History note: Jules Taurin, antiquaire, 4 Place Barthélémy and 3 rue Damiette (by the church of Saint Maclou), Rouen; bought for 1100 francs (£10.10d. at the then rate of exchange) on 21 October 1925 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
