Description
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, olive-green, and yellow with tulips in a central medallion surrounded by a border of pairs of slanting leaves
Buff earthenware, the front tin-glazed and painted in blue, olive-green, and yellow; the reverse slip-coated and lead-glazed. Circular with a deep sloping rim and curved well, standing on a wide, shallow footring pierced by a suspension hole. The well is decorated with two large tulips and foliage growing from a small mound, framed by a yellow and two blue concentric circles. On the rim there is a wide border of repeating pairs of blue and yellow leaves forming a zig-zag with small blue double V shapes between them, and a yellow and two blue concentric circles on either side. There are three spur marks on the central medallion.

History note: An unidentified vendor living in a cottage at Steeple Morden, Cambridgeshire; sold for £1 to Stanley Woolston, Cambridge; bought from him for £1.10s.0d. on 13 December 1921 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge

Note
When Dr Glaisher acquired this dish he considered that it was English because of being acquired by the vendor at Steeple Morden, but the shiny whiteness of the glaze and the border pattern are unlike English delftware tulip dishes, and it is probably Dutch.
