Description

Brown salt-glazed stoneware. Cylindrical with short narrow neck and single loop handle springing from the shoulder. On the front, about half-way down, is a circular stamp inscribed 'APOLLINARIS-BRUN[NEN]' with an anchor in the middle. Below is stamped 'GEORG.KREUZ[BERG] /AHRWEILER/RHEIN-PREUSSEN'. Incised below the handle 'No 1/0' (o raised)

Note

This is a bottle for Apollinaris mineral water. Georg Kreuzberg who was born in Ahrweiler in 1795 and died there in 1873, discovered the spring in 1852 and from 1853 began to sell the water in stoneware bottles.
