Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with flowers and stripes

Pale buff earthenware, thrown, with applied handles and knob, tin-glazed and painted in blue. The cylindrical pot has a narrow shoulder, short cylindrical neck, and two applied handles of D section. The circular lid is slightly domed and had a round button knob. Underneath it has a circular flange which fits inside the neck of the pot. On each side of the pot there is a rectangular panel filled with stylized plants between sloping lines (perhaps stems). The backs of the handles are decorated with horizontal stripes. The cover is decorated en suite with the pot, with the lines and stems radiating from two concentric circles round the knob, which has a central spot surrounded by two concentric circles.
