Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, comprising a vase with two twisted snake handles, two covers with spouts, and a stand with applied gadrooning, decorated in baroque style with architectural elements, vases, masks, female figures, putti, and formal foliage and flowers.

History note: An unidentified English owner; purchased from Mr Louis Mossel, 6 Manette Street, Charingcross Road, London, in July 1906, for £110.0.0 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge

Production date: circa AD 1690 : Adriaen Kocks (d. 1701) was proprietor of the Greek A factory from 1686 until his death.

Comparable flower vases are at Chatsworth, Derbyshire (1), Uppark (National Trust), West Sussex (1), the Museum Het Prinsenhof, Delft (2), and, lacking its cover and spouts section, the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague. See Documentation. Aken-Fehmers, 2007. A similar vase without its stand was sold by Sotheby's of London in 1994 and is now the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
