Description

Maiolica plate, painted in polychrome with a view of an estuary with boats, a jetty, a ship, a town and distant mountains.

Earthenware, tin-glazed overall; three spur marks on the back. Painted in greyish-blue, yellowish-green, yellow, pale and dark brown.
Circular with narrow sloping rim and wide shallow well.
A view of an estuary with two boats on the river and two further out at sea. In the foreground are a building by a jetty and two men standing beside a bollard; further to the right are the masts of an approaching ship. On the opposite bank are cliffs, a town and distant mountains. A narrow dark brown band and a wider yellow band encircle the rim.
