Description

Firtware painted in blue and turquoise under a colourless glaze

Fritware, mould made, painted in blue and turquoise under a colourless glaze.
Shape: segmental bowl with a flange rim, sits on a low, wide foot ring
Interior: all decoration is reserved in blue. On the rim a repeating floral pattern, with central turquoise central dot, is surrounded by ‘tadpole’ leaves. On the cavetto, a frieze of oval lobbed medallions, containing turquoise lozenges with blue flowers, are framed above and below by rosettes. In the roundel, echoing the cavetto, identical turquoise lozenges and rosettes radiate from a central floral spray reserved in turquoise within a lobbed circular medallion.
Exterior: all decoration is painted in blue which has run slightly onto the surrounding white ground. On the rim, a bracketed blue line, while on the body scrolling floral sprays and ‘tadpole’ leaves are painted in a sketchy style.
