Description

Tin-glazed earthenware pharmacy jar painted in blue with leaves or wings, circles, spirals, and strokes

Pale buff earthenware tin-glazed on the interior and exterior; base unglazed. The glaze on the interior is thinner than on the exterior and the body shows througth it. The exterior is painted in blue The jar is of albarello form with slightly waisted sides, sloping shoulder, short neck, and projecting rim. The main field is decorated with half-leaves or wings, circles, spirals and short strokes. Round the base there is a wide band. On the shoulder, between horizontal bands there are alternating interlaced knots and 'combs'; and on the neck, two narrow and a wide horizontal band.
