Cauliflower Tureen
Production: Unidentified Delft factory
Tin-glazed earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed pale blue, and painted in dark blue, greyish-green, and yellow. The tureen is moulded in two parts. The lower part resembles the leafy outside of the cauliflower, and the cover the underdeveloped flower.
History note: Bought by the unnamed vendor in Utrecht; bought in London in 1902 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge

Relative size of this object is displayed using code inspired by Good Form and Spectacle's work on the British Museum's Waddeson Bequest website and their dimension drawer. They chose a tennis ball to represent a universally sized object, from which you could envisage the size of an object.

This was identified as a broccoli tureen by Dr Glaisher and Bernard Rackham, but it looks like a small underdeveloped cauliflower to this cataloguer.
