Venus
Production: Unidentified Delft factory (Probably)
Tin-glazed earthenware figure of Venus accompanied by a peaock painted in blue, green, yellow, red, and manganese-purple
Pale buff earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed bluish-white, and painted in blue, green, yellow, red, and manganese-purple. The slender figure is supported on a circular mound base painted green with small red flecks here and there. Venus stands in front of a peaock, which is painted in blue and yellow. She stands on her right foot with left a little behind it. She holds a yellow fruit in the hand of her extended left arm. Her right arm hangs down beside her. Her flesh is tinted and shaded in pale blue. She wears a yellow and red head band, and a yellow knee-length tunic with a red striped border at the top, and a red string below her breasts.

Although this figure and its companions bear the mark of Pieter Kocs who directed the Greek A Factory between 1701-22, they were probably made in the 19th century, or were made in the late 18th century and had the red mark applied to them overglaze in the 19th century.Rackham (1935) however, considered that they were Dutch and early 18th century.
