Drinker seated on a Barrel
Factory: uncertain
Earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed, and painted in blue, green, yellow, brown, manganese-purple. The man sits astride a barrel, holding a bottle in his raised right hand, and a goblet in his left hand which is held in front of him. The bottle and goblet are yellowish green. He has long hair, and wears a manganese-purple tricorn hat with a yellow edge, a full-skirted blue coat, a foxy-brown waistcoat, and manganese-purple breeches, all with yellow buttons, and manganese-purple shoes with blue buckles. The barrel is blue, with a reserved white top which has a hole to take a spigot. It is inscribed on the top, facing the viewer, 'IK/DRINKT/ NATUVT/ VAT/1760. It rests on a roughly rectangular green mound with a reserved panel on the front, inscribed in blue 'IN:MVN/DRONKE/:GAAT. The base is approximately quatrefoil in plan, the two sides having smaller, more pointed lobes than the front and back, and has a vertical yellow edge decorated with rough scrolls in brown.
