Fritware painted in polychrome under a colourless glaze
Fritware, probably mould made, painted in red slip blue, black and emerald green under a colourless glaze
Shape: segmental bowl with a flange rim, sits on a low, wide foot ring
Interior: on the rim a rock wave pattern is painted in black and blue. On the cavetto, a green meandering vine adorned with blue buds and red split leaf palmettes, all outlined in black. In the roundel, a floral spray including saz leaves and pomegranate flower heads painted in red and blue and outlined in black, all reserved in green.
Exterior: blue concentric lines below the rim and on the foot ring frame a frieze of blue and green rosettes and floral sprays, outlined in black, on the body. The glaze covers the surface except for the rim of the foot ring.
History note: From the Joseph Dixon Collection, sold at Christie’s, 16th-17th March, 1911, lot 17. Sold to Harving for 62 guineas afterwards bought by Riches
