Description

Perfume burner and cover. Hard-paste porcelain, of square section, pierced, and painted on the biscuit in an enamel palette of black, yellow, aubergine and two tones of green, the cover with a Buddhist lion knop.

Perfume burner and cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted on the biscuit in an enamel palette of black, yellow, aubergine and two tones of green. The two-storied body is of square section with upright sides supported on four green scroll legs issuing from ferocious animal masks. The lower part of the body has raised rectanglar panels incised with a wan-diaper pattern picked out in black on a green ground, reserved against an intricate green and yellow trellis diaper, surmounted by a galleried flange with a florette diaper in green, yellow and aubergine round the edge and a green-ground spiral scroll on the top. The upper part of the body is intricately pierced with green wan-diaper panels reserved against pale green cell-diaper. There is a matching pierced wan-diaper and cell-diaper pattern on the sloping sides of the domed cover which has a flat top, centred with a large pale aubergine Buddhist lion knop, the animal's right paw resting on a pale yellow brocade ball. The interior and the base are unglazed.
