Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue with a Chinese figure in an Oriental landscape

Buff earthenware tin-glazed except for the underside, and painted in blue. The jug has a bulbous body supported by a circular spreading foot, slightly concave underneath. Its neck is pierced by three rows of angular perforations. A round hollow handle with a hole in its underside near the top connects with the interior of the jug, and with a tube and three nozzles around the top of its neck. The sides are decorated with a Chinese figure holding a bottle seated in an Oriental landscape with banana trees, a fence, bushes and schematic clouds. The handle and mouth are decorated with Chinese scrolls and dots, and there are stiff leaves on the foot.
