Both pieces have a blue ground with irregularly shaped reserves edged by gilt scrollwork. The ground is decorated with floral sprays, garlands, and scrolls. On the cup there are two birds perching together, and on the saucer, one perched bird, and one flying bird. There are gold bands round the base and rim of the cup, and round the rim of the saucer.
