This figure group was known as Shepherd playing a Flute, but was probably the group referred to in John Wood's account book on 14 September 1786 as 'Shepherd and Shepherdess on Rock candlesticks at 8s 0d. sold to Mr William Mortlock. On 8 February 1787 he recorded that he had bought from his brother Ralph Wood a pair of the same subject for 8s.0d. It is possible, however, that the first sale of figures, had also been supplied by Ralph, who at the time was in partnership with Enoch Wood. Both entries show that this group was in production by 1786-7. This group has no candle socket, but might have had one attached to the now broken off top of the tree behind the figures.
