Description

Fragment of an earthenware dish centre, with incised decoration with cut-away background under lead glaze, with a woman's head.

Buff earthenware, the upper surface coated with white slip. Incised decoration with cut-away background under lead glaze. The reverse is lead-glazed on the sides only. Approximately rectangular with part of a disk base.

History note: Purportedly from the Lagoon in Venice. H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991
